Attar · oil base, alcohol free Made in: Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. Khus is vetiver root, but distilled in the traditional deg-bhapka method into a sandalwood base it becomes something else entirely: cooler, greener and with a sweetness the alcohol-based vetiver does not have. Worn across North India through the summer for the better part of a thousand years, on the reasoning that it makes you feel cooler. It does.

Store upright, away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not decant into metal. Spray onto skin rather than clothing: the notes turn on fabric and can stain silk.

I assumed the cooling thing was marketing. It is not, or at least the association is strong enough that it may as well be true. Wonderful in May.
